It can be argued that keyword research is the most important aspect of SEO.
What is Keyword Research?
Keyword research is the process of researching and finding words relating to your business that users are most likely to Google search.
For example, if you are a construction company located in Belfast, users are likely to type words or phrases into Google search relating to a construction company and then the location. For instance, they may type ‘Construction Belfast’. This will then bring up a list of construction business located in the area.
But it’s not quite as easy as simply choosing appropriate keywords for your website. Without properly “optimising” your site and its content around keyword phrases or words your site has little or no chance of being presented by Google to a user performing the search. When a user finds your website through searching on Google they may be interested in your businesses products and/or services, ultimately this will lead to potential customers.

Why is keyword research the most important aspect of SEO?
If you do not have word or phrases relating to your website linked onto your website you cannot properly optimise your website, as a result you will receive no traffic to your website as your website may not be found within Google rankings.
On the other hand, if your website have keywords not relating to your website, you may receive traffic yes, but it will not be relevant and you are most likely not going to get custom from this. This in turn is frustrating for you as your website will not be successful.
Generalized or popular search terms relating to your business make up the mass percentage of users searches, it is important to have the right keywords if you want to be competing with similar businesses websites.
Furthermore, it is important that your keywords or phrases are very specific. For example, instead of having “Construction Company” you should change this to “construction company Belfast” or the specific area that you are in. This is due to the fact that most likely the user will be looking for this service within their area. By having a more specific phrase this will narrow down the list of Google searches and then the user will be able to find your website easily. This will ultimately increase the traffic to your website.
